Ken Coates is a faculty member in the Johnson-Shoyama Graduate School of Public Policy . He has previously worked at universities in British Columbia, New Zealand, New Brunswick and Saskatchewan, where he was Dean, College of Arts and Sciences. He has published widely in such diverse fields as northern Canadian history, Aboriginal rights and society, science and technology. Ken previously served as co-President (with Carin Holroyd) of the Japan Studies Association. His research interests in Japan Studies focus on Canada-Japan relations and scientific and technological innovation. Among his works on Japan, all with Carin Holroyd, are Pacific Partners (a study of Canada-Japan interaction), Japan and the Internet Revolution, and Innovation Nation: Science and Technology in 21st Century Japan (forthcoming in 2007 from Palgrave Macmillan).
