Vickie Cammack - 2011 "Innovators in Action" Speaker Series

Wednesday, April 20, 2011 - 19:00 - 21:00

SiG@Waterloo's Innovators in Action Speaker Series will feature applications of social innovation on various issues within complex systems - this year's series focuses on education, youth social infrastructure, vulnerable populations, social technologies, community resilience and social finance. Each of the keynote speakers will share their experiences in working to identify and address the root causes of intractable social challenges. Each presentation will be followed by a discussion with local panel members who will share their reflections on the ideas and offer their own insights.

About the talk

Social Innovation involves genuinely new ways of approaching a particular social problem. Vickie Cammack's work with Planned Lifetime Advocacy Network (PLAN) and its new enterprise, TYZE, does exactly that. Building on the immensely successful work of PLAN and the Plan Institute of Caring Citizenship, Vickie Cammack and her team have recently launched a unique new social enterprise – TYZE. TYZE is a multi-faceted online, social networking platform helping groups of people organize support around anyone experiencing a life challenge. Vickie shared her expertise in using new social technology as a tool to support and re-engage vulnerable members of our society, her first hand experience of the power of individuals within systems to facilitate positive change, and her belief in the need to recognize the potential in connecting informal and formal systems of care. Vickie is a leading Canadian social innovator and SiG@Waterloo was excited to have her as the introductory speaker for 2011 "Innovators in Action" Speaker Series.
